Chairman's Report:- Council Meeting - 8th May 2008
Quay Developments, who are building the 8 dwellings at Meadow Road, reported that the build was still on target for end of
August handover. Their other interest within the Parish is a further development to the rear of the new 8 houses and following
their advertisements locally to judge housing demand they reported a large response. A more in depth questionnaire is being
sent to these people to ascertain their precise situation and detailed needs. A planning application for a proposed development
of 15 additional properties will be submitted to Caradon hopefully by the end of April.
PSCO Steve Cocks, although not able to be present, sent in a report stating that no crime was evident in the Parish for the last
month. He was also volunteering to organise a site meeting at the Village hall to discuss the proposed play area there, if required.
A date has yet to be set.
Concerns were voiced over lack of public bus service calling at the village. We were reminded that the service was stopped due
to lack of use! Contact is to be made with Greyhound but the council will have to prove there is a need before any further
consideration from Greyhound.
April’s meeting is the month when representatives give their annual report and these were duly delivered : Village Hall -
Mrs I Keen, Police liaison – Mrs S Rawlins, Shop & Post Office – Mr R Pugh, Amenities – Mrs S Pipe. There was no representative
for the Mini Bus but it was noted that there is a need for more volunteers for this committee.
Finally, as May Day is fast approaching we hope that we are blessed with fine weather, not as last year, and all attending will
have an enjoyable day’s celebrations.
The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th May at 7.30 pm in the Main Hall, again as usual all are welcome.

Chairman's Report:- Council Meeting - 8th April 2008
12 Months have passed since being elected Chairman bringing the Parish Council to their Annual General Meeting.
“For my sins” the Council voted in favour of me continuing for a further year with Richard Pugh re-elected as Vice-Chairman,
Irene Keen again as Village Hall Representative and Siobhan Rawlins again as Police Liaison Representative. I thank all members
for their continued support of these elected officers.
PCSO Steve Cocks reported there have been no crimes reported during the last month. Continuing, he stated that a site meeting
regarding the proposed play area at the Village Hall will be organised to endeavour to progress this long awaited project. He also
asked the Parish Council for financial support for transport of the youth to the weekly Youth Group at Looe and maybe have use
of the Lanreath mini-bus. All this will be discussed over the next few months.
Cllr. Paul Adams delivered his report on County matters and Cllr Richard Pugh delivered his report on District matters particularly
mentioning the continuing concern over proposed painting of the building on the old garage site. Caradon DC enforcement are
insisting that painting in a dark green colour be completed by 30th June 2008. He also discussed the proposed closure of certain
BT phone boxes in the area. It was unanimously agreed that the Parish Council shall write to BT expressing our displeasure with
the proposals particularly due to bad mobile coverage within the area especially at Talland Bay where a health and safety issue
will exist.
A deputation of village youth was welcomed and they gave a small presentation in support of the previously mentioned play
area. They had fund-raised £141 on May Day to assist in purchase of equipment. Further discussions on funding for the youth
and suggestions that there could be a junior Parish Council representative to communicate concerns and suggestions from the local
youth will be discussed at future meetings.
As Chairman I was tasked with investigating the lack of public transport calling at Lanreath. The MD of Western Greyhound
advised that without County or District subsidy the non-profitable service to our village is a non starter. No current subsidies are
available but we will endeavour to justify the service. There will be a tear off slip for those interested within this magazine.
Grass cutting has been organised for the children’s garden next to the old school and this will hopefully be put to good use.
The Village has again entered The Best Kept Village competition, posters will be on display shortly and I ask all villagers to be
mindful of village tidiness, especially litter, and assist in improving on last years win of “Highly Recommended”
The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 17th June at 7.30 pm in the Committee Room at Lanreath Village Hall. As usual
all are welcome.

No crime has been reported to the Police during the last month although there has been numerous incidences of “petty
vandalism” being reported to me which I have in turn passed on the PSCO Steve Cocks. I believe he has had words with village
youth on the school bus and hopefully now this spate of climbing onto roofs, up flagpoles, causing minor damage etc. will cease.
Should this unfortunately not be the case further investigation into the perpetrators will be instigated.
Whilst mentioning the village youth the Parish Council is extremely mindful of the lack of official playing space in the village.
The proposed play area for the youths is progressing albeit at a very slow pace. The Village Hall Committee have given its support of
the tarmac area planned and the initial excavation works have been authorised and should be executed in a couple of weeks.
Siobhan Rawlins is organising local youth fund raising for this project so “any ideas” should firstly be directed towards her.
With the village youth still in mind the weekly Youth Group at Looe is continuing to be well supported and the Parish Council
have provided a donation to assist in the running costs of the weekly bus.
Last month enquiry slips were included in the distribution of the Lanreath Lifestyle but only 14 were returned indicating a
personal need for public transport. Unfortunately this number is just not sufficient to assist in the justification of a local bus route.
The lack of County or District subsidy will continue for the foreseeable future in precluding our Village from being put on the bus
route.
The construction programme of the social housing at Meadow Road has been reported as “in delay” and the anticipated
completion has been extended until October. No further progress has been evident on any further social housing in the Village.
Weekly evening “work sessions” for the Best Kept Village competition have been organised, sadly with not too much interest.
Village grass cutting was becoming a bit of an embarrassment particularly the Churchyard and Millennium Green. The Contractor
responsible has since attempted to improve the situation, this will be monitored, but I ask villagers to endeavour to keep their bit of
Village tidy with grass well cut. Please help, not only for the competition but as a way of improving your Village for all to enjoy. Come
along to the Millennium Green 6.30 pm on Tuesday evenings to hopefully help, if not constructive criticism is always welcome.
The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 15th July at 7.30 pm in the Committee Room at Lanreath Village Hall, again as
usual all are welcome.
